All of the Fisheries Liaison Officers (FLOs) on the IS&WFPO Register have completed the relevant Safety and Training courses and have obtained Certificates such as Personal Survival Techniques, First Aid, Radio Operations, etc.

While on board your company's vessel the duties of the FLO will be set out by you but usually include:

• Liaising with and monitoring all vessels operating in or approaching the area of works and generally alerting them to the works;
  

• Furnishing information and supplying such vessels with details of the works being carried out;
  

• Outlining the co-ordinates / readings of such works and if necessary instructing such vessels to alter their course or to give the works a wide berth;

• Preventing and alleviating the worry of potential problems which may occur as a result of the works;
  

• Maintaining a positive working relationship for all operating vessels in the work area;
  

• Providing a complete and detailed report to your company outlining the occurrences and events of each day the FLO is on board your company's vessel.
  

The IS&WFPO provide Guard Vessels which are an essential health and safety component as a visible warning to on-going sub-aqueous works. In addition to the visible presence of these vessels, alerts to marine traffic with the co-ordinates / readings of such works will also be given. If necessary, vessels are informed to alter their course or to give a wide berth to the designated area.

Guard vessels alleviate the worry of potential problems which may occur as a result of the works while maintaining a positive working relationship with all operating vessels in the work area. As well, they provide detailed daily reports of all occurrences and events.
